Portsmouth Rating number

Messagede CanCan » 18 Fév 2012, 17:41

Hello...

We sail a Sonate 28 of 1982 vintage in a few club races in the USA. Does anyone on this forum know the assigned Portsmouth handicap number for a 28?

Thanks! Rob H.

Hi Rob,
Tough question !
There are very few Sonate 28 left, and i doubt the ones which are still sailing around here are racing !

You may want to contact the architect office : Philippe Briand Yacht Design http://www.philippebriand.com/
and see if they have any clue ?

Cheers, Kev

Kev...

Thanks! I did as you suggested and sent an e-mail off to PB's offices. Our 28 has been completely restored and re-fit, including a new engine. We hope to enjoy her for many years to come. And, Yes, she may well be only one in the Continental US. "CanCan" draws a crowd wherever she sails and docks.

Yes, these are amazing little boats ! Along wth the 25 and 31, these 28 have been designed by Philippe Briand in the 70's and the first boats manufactured by Alubat. A while before Philippe Briand became a renowned naval architect after designing famous racing boats such as French Kiss, Elf Aquitaine, Mari-Cha ...!!
Marc S/Y Chamade who has just sailed across the North West passage last summer with his 365, sailed a 28 around the world in the 80's (Ovni 28 Chiloe), and i am told he is not the only one !
Cheers, K.
